'A Post COVID Home'

April 2020

‘A Post COVID home’ is a study into how we can respond to changing ideas in hygiene, waste-fullness, DIY, community, value of workspace, health and the environment. I feel as though many people will have new outlooks on these topics as we move through this pandemic, and be more mindful of what is truly most valuable to them.

I wanted the home to be flat pack, in the sense that it can be assembled with ease and expanded as user requirements change. Self sustainability was something I wanted to emphasise to encourage a growth in cottage businesses. The home is clad with cork tiles that provide a sustainable insulation alternative and sound proofing element to the home. Users will enter through the ‘cleansing room’ that enables them to take off any contaminated clothing, put them in the washing machine, wash their hands and remove shoes and coats.

In a world recovering from Coronavirus community will be key to the new way of living. The community space features a large vegetable garden that will be maintained and used by the home owners, with a kitchen in the centre of the garden to encourage socialising and togetherness to create a more interesting and diverse neighbourhood.
